All of the World's finest foods proudly carry the epithet of their place of provenance. Champagne wine and Parma Ham, for example, have both benefitted from EU legislation that prevent anybody else calling their product by the same name. This gives consumers the confidence that they are getting a quality product. One would expect no less, when shopping in such illustrious stores as Selfridges, Fortnum and Mason or Harrods.
The best place to purchase pork pies is probably one of the larger petrol stations that can be found out of town, and who can always be relied upon to stock the widest selection of such delicacies. The big names such as Ginster's are always to be found, but in a breadth and depth that no supermarket can ever hope to match. For example, a particular favourite of mine is the "Scotch Egg Bar", a beguilingly tempting delicacy which ingeniously combines all of the eggy, sausagy, breadcrumby goodness with the convenience of a mars bar.
It doesn't end there, and among the more amazingly futuristic fare on offer in these places include such wonders as a baked beans bar, a full english breakfast milk drink and a Coca Cola flapjack. Such products turn the notion of food upside down, and I for one would be willing to wager that no less a man than Neil Armstrong, who despite having set foot on the moon and eaten what was at the time the most advanced food ever devised, would marvel at such a technological miracle presented by my Scotch Egg bar. A combination of bits of animal carcass that used to be thrown away, a battery egg and strange orange bits which are called breadcrumbs for no apparent reason can maintain their lack of flavour and nutrients for anything upto three thousand years.
Such fine establishments as these cater to the every whim of the cosmopolitan gentleman about town by offering a bewildering array of meal choices, incorporating many different meats and vegetables, all conveniently encased in a pocket of pastry, or breadcrumbed batter. Add to this the extensive wine list they offer, the selection of unusual and slightly suspicious lagers and the experimental confectionary such as Chunky Kit-Kat with Aloe Vera, or Rolos Mexicaine and you have a treat for any foodie.
